Common Nordic rules for the production of goods, a focus on emissions in public procurement, and fewer opportunities for tax deductions on business travel by car – these are some of the many proposals presented by the Nordic Council of Ministers in a new report launched at COP29 in Baku. Our program director Göran Finnveden participated in the event.
The report, Policy Options for Reducing Consumption-Based Emissions: A Nordic Survey, was authored by Göran Finnveden, Eskil Engström, and Karin Bradley from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, among others. It was presented during an event on November 19 at the climate summit in Baku. Following the presentation, a panel discussion took place with members of parliament, a representative from the Nordic Council of Ministers, and the Secretary General of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation.
Here’s what Göran Finnveden said about the report in an interview with KTH:
What are the key takeaways from the report that you want to emphasize?
– Some of the conclusions are that there are many cost-effective and feasible measures that can be implemented. However, there is no single solution that will suffice. Instead, we need combinations of measures, ideally in policy packages that include both incentives and regulations while also supporting groups that might be disproportionately affected.
