The SCORAI Europe Conference 2025 is possibly the world’s largest gathering focused on sustainable consumption. In 2025, the conference will take place in Lund, Sweden, and the driving force behind it is Matthias Lehner, Associate Senior Lecturer at Lund University and researcher at Mistra Sustainable Consumption. Here, he answers a few questions about the event.

Why should you attend this conference?
– The purpose of the conference is to connect researchers in sustainable consumption and to foster dialogue between academia and society. You should attend if you want to learn more about the latest research in sustainable consumption, engage with researchers, business leaders, and policymakers, and listen to inspiring—and sometimes provocative—keynote speakers. The conference also offers a program featuring around 20 workshops that encourage active participation.

Who is the most well-known speaker?
– That would probably be economist Tim Jackson, best known for his book Prosperity Without Growth and for his work with Tony Blair’s government in the UK.

What do you hope to take away from the conference?
– The conference in Lund will be one of the largest SCORAI conferences ever. We expect 400+ participants from across Europe, as well as from North America, India, China, and beyond. I hope to gain a wealth of new connections. I also look forward to a deeper understanding of the latest developments in sustainability research in Europe—and beyond—which could, of course, lead to exciting and ambitious new research projects.
